$45M Investment for Serbian-American Seven BridgesBY the_author();?> ON February 17
Seven Bridges, the biomedical data analysis company based in Cambridge, MA, announced yesterday a Series A investment of $45 million led by Kryssen Capital. The investment is said to support the ongoing development of Seven Bridges platform, the first commercial platform for cloud-enabled genomic data analysis used by researchers and scientists around the world.
With its development team based in Belgrade, Serbia, Seven Bridges is one of the fastest-growing companies present in the region, and certainly one with amazing impact. Their platform enables key research to be done towards developing personalized medicine and genomic research as the keystone to battling cancer.
In addition to the funding round, Seven Bridges has added two new members to its board of advisors: Tom Daschle, former U.S. Senate Majority Leader and Founder and CEO of The Daschle Group; and Kai-Fu Lee, one of China’s most influential technology figures and founding president of Google China.
Co-founder and CTO, Igor Bogicevic, told us they see the investment as a recognition of their dedication to the mission: moving personalized medicine forward and helping researchers.
Investment is fuel to move various parameters in the right direction. We raise funds to achieve a certain goal, not as a reward. The value of this round of funding is in the recognition it brings to us.
On one hand, it’s the recognition of our mission — our wish to contribute to personalized medicine and to help researchers. Our platform is already helping researchers treat rare genetic diseases such as cancer, but we’re striving to bring it into everyday practice.
On the other hand, this is an enormous recognition of our work so far, since the investments prove trust in our company. At the same time, it takes us to a completely new level of expectations and responsibility.
We need to take every aspect of our business to the next level – organizational, revenue streams and growth. As for markets we target, we’re keeping our focus on large national agreements and cooperation with large players in the industry and academia.
On the global level, we plan to scale the existing business and take over new verticals; as for the team in Belgrade, we plan to continue employing and create the best possible conditions for the employees.
Seven Bridges was the first Serbian tech company we presented on our website back in 2012, and has grown ever since into one of the most prosperous companies in the region.
