Introducing Startit Meetups, local community’s opportunity for networking and new knowledge

We have started the Startit project a few months back, with the goal of helping to kickstart the local startup ecosystem by publishing relevant news, educational and other content. The English version you’re reading now is almost a month and a half old by now.

So far the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive and we couldn’t be happier for it, although we still do have a lot of work to do and a number of plans and ideas for the future. One of those will be starting later this week in Belgrade, providing the local startup community with a regular opportunity to network and learn cool new stuff.

Semaphore — helping Ruby devs create quality apps with their continuous integration service

Semaphore is a hosted continuous integration sevrice for Ruby apps, a fresh startup hailing from Novi Sad, Serbia. The service will allow it’s users to automate the testing process with the goal of improving the quality of software and shorten the overall process of creating software.

The target market are Ruby programmers who don’t want to bother with managing their own continuous integration servers. Semaphore aims at small and medium size teams (5 to 15 people) and offers collaboration features. (See full feature list here.)

‘Seedcamp is like a $100.000 in consulting’

One of the main components of all Seedcamp events, including the one recently held in Zagreb are the mentoring sessions.

During these the mentors are divided into groups and then go from startup to startup and give counsel and ask them hard questions, so as to help them develop their products and businesses.

Startups can get a lot of value from these sessions as one of the participants tweeted, whom we quoted for the title of this article.

Seedcamp Zagreb attracts 19 startups to the capital of Croatia

Seedcamp is in Zagreb for the second time in it’s fourth visit to this region, the other two having taken place in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The presence of Seedcamp in SEE is a considerable benefit to the startups of the region which can receive valuable feedback and connect with startups and mentors from all over Europe. A number of regional startups had already joined Seedcamp’s ranks, namely Zemanta, vox.io, Farmeron, Oust.me and GIS Cloud.

There have been a number of successful and promising startups coming out of South-East Europe lately.

Take Farmeron for instance – after getting into Seedcamp and then 500 Startups, the startup had just raised a $1.4 million seed round to help farmers all around the world do their work more efficiently.

Or Nordeus, which had taken EA head on to win the title of the most popular sports game online with it’s Top Eleven football manager. This bootstrapped company is now the third largest European social gaming company.

Manage WP: One WordPress dashboard to rule all them all

Manage WP is a Belgrade company whose product allows its users to manage multiple installations of WordPress through one dashboard. This startup already has more than 30.000 users and in the following period it will shift its focus from the product to business development.

As the founder and CEO of Manage WP, Vladimir Prelovac, says, their goal to reach 0.5% of all websites on the Internet with their platform (currently this number is at 0.04%) and to reach $1.000.000 million in monthly revenue. One additional goal is to demonstrate that it is possible to create a globally successful startup from Serbia.
